Jen Lindstrand, ACMHC
Hi, my name is Jen, an Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor working with therapy clients on telehealth only who reside in Utah.
As a therapist, I take a holistic, whole person approach with clients and I believe in centering my clients lived experience, leading with compassion, respect, and the belief that all humans have limitless potential. It is extremely important to me to create a warm, safe, welcoming space where you feel you can be your most authentic self.
As an integrative therapist, I pull from therapy frameworks that I believe will help meet your goals in therapy, which most often include CBT, psychodynamic theory, narrative therapy, mindfulness, and aspects of feminist theories, liberation psychology, and a systems approach. I am passionate about the mind-body connection as a therapist and often consider how neuroscience, somatics, and my clients lived environments impact their wellbeing.
I primarily work with teenage and adult women, though I am open to connecting with any client who feels we may be a good fit. Trauma has been the main focus of my clinical work and training, however I am also working towards specializing in disordered eating. Adoption and identity conflicts that come along with being adopted is another area I feel well versed in working with, as someone who is also adopted. If you are navigating life changes, stress, disordered eating, trauma, PTSD and C-PTSD, abusive environments, boundaries and healthy relationships, various personality disorders, and dissociative disorders I would love to work with you.
I especially love working with clients who are athletes and adventurous souls. As someone who did “digital nomad life” for many years, and is an avid backpacker, runner, surfer, rock climber, and snowboarder, clients who resonate with this lifestyle are warmly welcome. Prior to my private practice work, I worked abroad in refugee camps with asylum seekers and also with a non-profit organization focused on culturally inclusive LGBTQIA+ care. I also have a background in crisis care environments.
I graduated from New York University with my masters degree in mental health counseling and I am currently training with the Beck Institute to become a Beck Institute CBT Certified Clinician. I have training in narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, emotionally focused therapy, and a variety of trauma related treatments.
Beyond my clinical training, I graduated from Northwestern University with a masters in public policy and global health, have taken masters level course work in anti-human trafficking and exploitation, forensic psychology, and victimology, completed a post bachelor’s degree in marketing from UCLA, and have a bachelor of science degree with majors in psychology, social science broad field, and business administration.
I am a person who stutters (PWS) and as a therapist, I love working with people who stutter. It is something that I find is largely misunderstood by society and having a therapist who “gets it” can make all the difference. I believe that working through the core beliefs and emotional/psychological impacts surrounding stuttering can benefit us greatly, offering peace and a higher level of emotional wellbeing. I would love to work with you if you are a person who stutters.
Regardless of what is bringing you to therapy, I want you to know that therapy with me will be compassionate, nonjudgmental, and supportive of your lived experience. Whether we meet in session, or we never have the opportunity to meet at all, your lived experience matters, your voice matters, and you deserve to live a full life where you feel that you can be your most authentic self.
If you are considering therapy with me but have questions, please feel free to email me at Jen@Sandyshorescounseling.com. Fit between a client and therapist is so important and I will do my best to answer your questions as you figure out your best fit.
